Brooke Shields Illuminates Phuket in Netflix’s Ongoing Production, ‘Mother of the Bride’

As the picturesque Phuket and Phang Nga in Thailand become a buzzing film set, Brooke Shields captures hearts and headlines alike. She's in full swing filming the much-anticipated Netflix rom-com 'Mother of the Bride.'

Hollywood icon Brooke Shields is set to star in the Netflix romantic comedy ‘Mother of the Bride,’ being filmed on location in the stunning tropical paradise of Phuket, Thailand.

Shields, best known for her roles in ‘Blue Lagoon,’ ‘Suddenly Susan,’ and a celebrated career as a model, takes the lead in this heartwarming movie alongside Benjamin Bratt and Miranda Cosgrove. The film, set in a luxurious resort in Phuket, centers around a mother (Shields) faced with the revelation that her daughter’s (Cosgrove) soon-to-be husband is the son of the man who broke her heart years ago.

The ‘Mother of the Bride’ cast also features Chad Michael Murray, Rachael Harris, Sean Teale, and Michael McDonald. Recently, Wilson Cruz, known for his role in ‘Star Trek: Discovery,’ has been added to the lineup and has been sharing his “pec-tacular adventures” in Phuket with fans via social media.

This Netflix production comes on the heels of Shields’ ABC News documentary, ‘Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields.’ The documentary, now streaming on Hulu, delves into Shields’ early career, her rise to fame, and the struggles of being a child star.

Mark Waters, known for his work on ‘Mean Girls’ and Netflix’s ‘He’s All That,’ is set to direct the film, with a screenplay penned by Robin Bernheim, co-writer for ‘The Princess Switch’ films. Production started in late April, and Shields revealed in a recent interview with Kara Swisher that she will be spending seven weeks in Phuket for the filming.

While this tropical paradise is making headlines with Brooke Shields’ arrival, Phuket and the nearby Phang Nga have long been favored by international filmmakers for their breathtaking landscapes. Notable examples include the 1974 James Bond film ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’ and Leonardo DiCaprio’s ‘The Beach’ in 2000. More recently, talk-show host Conan O’Brien was in Thailand for his upcoming HBO series.

Thailand’s government, recognizing the country’s potential as an international film destination, offers various incentives to attract foreign productions. These include tax breaks, logistical support, and simplified permit processes, making Thailand an attractive location for the film and TV industry.

In addition to the movie’s excitement, fans have been delighted by Shields’ updates from the set. Recently, she shared photos of her 20-year-old daughter, Rowan, who visited her in Phuket, celebrating Rowan’s birthday together, creating personal memories amidst the professional excitement.

With a stellar cast, an enchanting setting, and a storyline full of romance and drama, ‘Mother of the Bride’ is set to be one of Netflix’s most anticipated releases. The film is expected to wrap production in the coming months and will move to post-production, with a release date yet to be announced.
